What do we want from music?
The Music Department aims to develop an understanding and enjoyment of music providing a wide variety of musical experiences through performance, composition, listening & reviewing covering a wide range of music spanning a range of eras, genres and cultures. Music is an art form, made of expression and cultural ritual and is shown to be a powerful and moving experience capable of expressing feeling, mood and a broad range of human emotion. Through the work at both Key Stages we encourage students to read music in all its forms, skills and vocabulary; employ teaching methods and resources which allows students to have equal access to music; develop the skills necessary to participate in a wide range of musical activities both at college and in the community.
Music is a driver and can help develop a wide range of personal qualities such as, perseverance, initiative, creativity and independence, whilst helping students .
Students are encouraged to think of music as a lifetimes experience and not necessarily an immediately (or adolescent) fulfilling experience but an investment in understanding and experience to be drawn on at later stages in life
